Cast away!

In 2011, I moved to the Pacific Northwest and watched sailboats in Puget Sound from the shore in Golden Gardens, from ferries, and from the marinas in San Juan Islands. I felt inspired and motivated to sail but the learning curve seemed steep and I didn’t see a lot of sailors who looked like me (I was a 23 year old woman from India). With effort on my part, encouragement from friends who sail (thanks Phil!), and the wonderful sailing community in Seattle, I’ve been able to realize my dream, though I stretch my dreams with each sail.

I started learning on FJs and Lasers at and SandPoint Sailing in Seattle. After a few years, I built up enough confidence to skipper larger boats (30+ ft) from the Seattle Sailing Club and San Juan Sailing Club to charter sailboats for multi-day cruising trips with my family.

In this blog, I share my learnings and experiences. I’m not an expert by any means and just want to share things I had to learn on my own in the hopes that it helps aspiring sailors. I also want to capture the memories from my trips to share with my family, friends, and the world.

I’d love to hear from you.
